Vintage 30s/40s Edith Lances Floral Lace Peach Underwire Bra w Velvet TrimESTATE FIND! This is a 1930s/1940s Peach / nude underwire bra by Edith Lances which started in Brooklyn in 1937.
The darted bra cups feature floral lace over matching cotton or rayon lining. This bra pre-dates when fabric content was required and the only label reads: "Edith Lances Wire Bra - Average 35" and the "Reg" U.S. Patent Office".
The underwire itself is much stiffer & thicker that later bras. In the front, the wire is sewn into the cloth and where they meet in the center of the breastbone the wire ends are covered in lace cloth. On the back of the bra (next to the body) the wire is covered with a fluffy velvet "fur".
The bra straps are a thick pink satin. The side panels are tapered to reach around to the back of the body and there are double pink elastic bands with a series of hooks & eyes that loop through the fabric so the fit can be adjusted.
Laying the bra flat it measures 36" end-to-end, including the elastic strips.
This is a rare estate find & is in the condition in which is was found which is amazing for it's age. We have not laundered it yet and will leave it to it's new owner to determine its proper care.
