I have for sale an American Flyer S-gauge custom "poor man's" 2-axle rear truck for a steam engine. This truck is made from the front pilot truck of a AF 21165-type steam engine, see pic #4, not a part of this deal. I cut the pilot truck into 2 pieces and then joined them with a strip of 1/8" sheet lead, using E6000 glue. The lead strip serves as both a structure and a weight to help keep the truck on the rails. Also cut off a bit that raised tongue to prevent drawbar interference at the rear and drilled & tapped it #4-40. For this particular truck the axle-to-axle distance is 20mm, but I can make them with any distance you would want.
When installed on a steam engine this truck looks much nicer than the drawbar-mounted bare wheels found on a number of lower-end AF steam engines.
Pics #5 & #6 show a 25mm truck mounted on a model 350 Royal Blue steam engine, not a part of this deal.
Over time I have purchased a number of AF 21165-type steam engines for their motors, which I use to convert O-gauge engines (AF, Marx, Lionel) to S-gauge. See pic #7 for an AF O-gauge model 9900 "Zephyr" engine which I have converted, and this engine is not part of the deal. So, I have accumulated a number of front pilot trucks. What to do with them? Make custom rear trucks, among other things.
As an aside, even though the AF 21165-type engines are a low-end cheesy product, their motors are surprisingly good. I have a number of them in use.
